About MicroEcoEvoCC

The MicroEcoEvo Bacterial Culture Collection (MicroEcoEvoCC) is a microbiological resource maintained by founders and curators Rodrigo Costa and Tina Keller-Costa at the Biological Sciences Research Group (BSRG) of the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon.

MicroEcoEvoCC was conceived in 2010 to serve as a platform to foster knowledge of marine symbioses, leveraging in-depth studies of bacterial symbionts of eukaryotic hosts across natural and built marine environments containing a total of 1,806 bacterial strains classified taxonomically by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, of which 102 strains with full genome sequences are available for collaborative research.

MicroEcoEvoCC contains bacterial cultures isolated in Portugal, complying to local regulatory permits. Most strains were obtained from marine host organisms from the coasts of Algarve and Sesimbra, or from integrated multitrophic aquaculture (IMTA) systems.

Services

The mission of MicroEcoEvoCC is to leverage scientific research by fostering FAIR principles and securing excellent curation, description and distribution of bacterial cultures to partner laboratories for scientific purposes only.
